Day 14 and 15

Great workout on Tuesday. 9 mile run around my hometown at night. Was great to get the pace down and a really run some quick miles in there.

Wednesday workout was 2 hours of basketball with my brother. Really fun to see the little guy and play some YMCA basketball with him.

Happy thanksgiving to all.

Day 13

Sorry for the late post gang, had a late one at work tonight.  My delay certainly isn’t for a lack of effort, that’s for sure.  I’ve made a point to workout everyday since my half marathon, and I’ve been good to my word.  Getting in lots of good running and I even started lifting again.

Also as promised, here’s a photograph from on the sands of Zuma Beach after last weeks race.  You can see Ma and me repping the 365 shirts.

Keep working hard everybody, we’re starting off the new year of blogging on a strong note!

Catch you all next week!  Happy Turkey Day!

Day 12: Baltimore

We’re happy to be back and involved in year 2 of the 365 day challenge.  On Sunday, Mike Kirby went to the Merritt Gym in Federal Hill for a quick 10 mile bike ride.  We hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and remembers all the sacrifices those in the military and their families do for the rest of us on a daily basis.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Day 10 + 11

Couple SurfSet classes taught in Scottsdale, AZ on Friday at an awesome resort. Would have liked to get a quick 9 holes in but we had to be on the road to San Diego.

Saturdays workout was an sweet 9 mile run around Torrey Pines area in Northern San Diego. So nice to get out there for an hour on the roads. Managed to find some trails too.

Be sure to get some extra workouts in the next few days so you don’t feel guilty about the consumption of turkey and stuffing and mashed potatoes and pie on Thursday night!

Day 9

After traveling for work for the past week, It was nice to get back in my home gym.  Last week I fully intended to blog a work out from NYC (where I was flying for work) but ended up spending the whole day in the airport– dealing with cancelations and multiple delays.

Today was far from a day in the airport.  I ran for 2 miles and did a core and lower body work out.  While traveling I read that one of the most important muscle group to strengthen is the back and legs.  As we get older these are the muscles that we will depend more and more upon to be strong and healthy.  Although this may be common sense for many, doing the right exercises to remain healthy and fit is key.

Day 8

Today I did an awesome interval workout on the treadmill! I am in NJ for work this week and thankfully they have a pretty good gym!
Finished off the work out with some weight and ab exercises!
Being in NJ this week and hearing about how so many people were affected by hurricane Sandy makes you really appreciate what you have. So many of the military men and women have helped out in this time of crisis… We are forever thankful!!

Day 7

Well, yesterday was the day.  After a summer’s worth of blog post’s talking about it, I finally ran the Malibu Half Marathon with my mom and my good friend Sarah.  As it had been the two years prior, the run yesterday was a great one with beautiful weather, amazing scenery, and good company.  Stretching 13. 1 miles of the Pacific Coast Highway and finishing on the sands of Zuma Beach, the Malibu Half Marathon is always a highlight of my year, but having my mom join me this year made for a really special day.  We both wore our 365 shirts in honor of WAO365 and Veterans Day. My mom snapped a couple of race pictures, so I’ll be sure to get them up once I get my hands on them.

Running the race with my mom, and spending the weekend with my family and friends really made me appreciate all that I have in my life.  I have a wonderful family, a great group of friends, a nice apartment, a good job, ambition for the future, and a desire to always do better.  Sure there are always going to be difficulties, but there is always so much more to learn and experience.  I know that if it weren’t for the men and women who have or are currently serving the country, I wouldn’t have the glorious life I lead.  Not everyone is as lucky as I am, both in this country and elsewhere, but I certainly know I wouldn’t have all I do without the sacrifice of so many.  Thank you to all those who have served, are serving, or have family members who were in the United States military.  Thank you for fighting for my freedoms, allowing me to live the life I choose.  Your sacrifice means a great deal and is certainly recognized.  Not only on Veteran’s Day but 365 days a year.

Day 6 – Veterans Day

Happy Veterans Day to all the Veterans out there! We can not thank you enough for all that you do for this Country.

On this Veterans Day weekend Mike Kirby and Chris Diller went to the gym for a stationary bike workout. Below is a picture of Chris pumping away on his bike.

Remember to take the time to thank a Veteran today. They cannot be thanked enough for the sacrifice they make for our Country.

Enjoy the week!

Day 3, 4 and 5

Crazy week here with Surfset. First we were in DC and got to hang with Matt, Marena and Christy at Crunch gym in Chevy Chase.

Wednesday and Thursday we were in Charleston, SC at the Medical University of SC. Got a few great classes in and the surf community loved the classes. Very energetic with all different fitness levels.

Friday we were in Downtown Atlanta. Very cool city but had to pack up quickly to head down to Miami. I got to get a nice 5 mile run in when we settled in West Palm for the evening.

We finally made it to South Beach in Miami and are having an awesome time here. Hoping the sun comes out soon but I’ll take this heat over the other East cost weather at this time. Going for a nice run along the beach at some point today. Need to catch up on sleep a little bit but I definitely have a better appreciation for the “on the road” lifestyle where you have to be able to drop anything and everything at any moment and get the work done that needs to get done.

Day 2

This morning, I went to the boathouse and did a workout on the erg: 2 minutes @ pace, 1 minute rest x 10. It was a workout recommended by one of my college roommates who won a gold medal at the U23 world championships this past summer:

In the afternoon, I got to run with the XC team and we did 6 x 800m on the road through the snow and wind. The team heads up to Hebron Academy in Maine this weekend for the New England Championships.

Happy New Year of Workouts to all!
