Day 192

Today was a good day. Got a 40 mile bike ride in up into Malibu by Pepperdine University. There were a bunch of canyons up there and with the 75 degree weather, got a nice bronze on as well. Cool seeing the surfers doing their thing early on a Wednesday too.

Got to the gym afterwards for a solid core and ab workout. Lots of different drills and exercises on the ball. Pushups with rolling out away from body. Starting on forearms and pushing up to the palm of the hands. Hip rolls while on fore arms. Single leg knee drives while on fore arms. And a few other core drills with the feet on the ball.

Ended the day with an hour of Yoga. Starting to get into this class as I need to work on my hip flexibility for hurdles. Definitely feels like another workout at this point. Heading to NY for my brothers graduation and race this weekend so Saturday will be an East Coast Post.

Til then,

Day 189

I was lucky enough to go to Occidental college last night to watch some of the fastest distance runners in America race. Really cool to see some of these races and get to watch many of the future distance running athletes who will represent the USA and other countries in this years’ Olympics. One guy in the video ran a 3:36 1500m (equivalent to a 3:55 mile). About 90 minutes later, he ran a 13:12 5k (3.1 miles). We got some work to do…cause he is British!

Hope everyone is having an awesome Saturday! I woke up early and went to a Soul Cycle class in West Hollywood. It is a spinning class mixed with a dance club. Lights are flashing, music is pumping and loud, instructor is beyond into it…definitely appropriately titled. About 40 riders for the hour with no ventilation or air. So lets just say I was not dry at the end of the class. Great workout and a lot of fun.

After cleaning up and fueling up, we went to Sunset Ranch up in the Hollywood hills for a hike in order to see the city and the Hollywood sign. Gorgeous day out and a pretty good hike.

So after we got up half way, we figured we might as well keep going all the way to the sign.

Hike was with some friends out here in Los Angeles (Sarah, Julia and Cody).

Day 186

Quick post for Day 186 to fill in for Team Wednesday since he is currently dealing with races, finals and getting ready for graduation.

I ran 5 miles in the morning followed by an ab workout and a 35 mile bike ride up the coast  into Malibu on the PCH. Great workout in the 75 degree weather.

Day 182

Crazy to think that we are just about at the halfway mark for the 365 Day Challenge. The even crazier part is looking at the amount of things that we’ve accomplished as an organization Keep up the great work and remember that We Are One.

Saturday’s weather was not ideal for beach volleyball but that didn’t stop a few of us from the Santa Monica Track Club. After our normal Saturday morning long run, we met up at Venice Beach and played some friendly games of volleyball that quickly showed all of our natural competitive sides. After the games, we did some calisthenics on the beach. Very active day with very awesome company.

The Cornell Crew team travelled to Worchester, MA for the Eastern Sprints. They must qualify for Nationals by coming in the top 9. They are racing as I type this so send fast thoughts their way.

Also, the Celtics won in a nail-biter. Lets go Boston!!

Day 175

What up 365 ers. What a gorgeous nearly summer day here in southern California. After watching James Sunderland score two goals in a crushing defeat in his men’s league soccer game, I was inspired to go for a bike ride down to the beach next to LAX airport. Found some interesting trails along some inlets that I am definitely looking forward to running on when I get to my high teen mile long runs. Biked down along the ocean with a few stops at lights here and there but it made for a nice 20 mile ride. After rehydrating, I mounted back up and biked the 22 miles back home. (Took a few different routes on the way back).

Day 172

Filling in for Team Wednesday for Day 172 of the 365 Day Challenge Blog. Team Saturday here!

I am recovering from my week long East Coast trip from sleeping on couches, floors, air mattresses, planes (the worst) and sometimes no sleep at all…body is extremely tired.

In order to lengthen out the body, get a good sweat, get the heart rate up all while getting a full body workout, I went swimming for a little over an hour for what I think was roughly 3.25 miles. Felt great. Some light stretching before and after in the Sauna. Will get back to the road mileage soon.

Day 168

Nick here,

Just had a nice work out in my hometown of Hollis, NH today.

Started with a 5 mile run this morning while Max biked beside me, again. Followed by a push-up and sit-up challenge, and for the blogs sake, it was a tie.

Gorgeous day today, trying to spend as much time with friends and family.

Stay sweet,

Day 167

Max here for Team Friday. Sorry for the late post. Had to get the internet password from the Karwoski’s house in Hollis.  Thanks Bear.

Got a good bike ride in next to Nick during his run. Good to get some WAO team action going on. Headed down to Boston for reunion dinner.

Keep those workouts going. Beach season is just around the corner.

Day 166: Run in Philly

Team Saturday filling in for Team Thursday today. Great day in Center City in Philadelphia. Ran next to the Schuylkill (something like that) with my great friend Andy Elkan. Solid 6 mile run at 6:40 pace with core, abs, stretching and rolling out afterwards at his gym next to where he works. Got our protein on afterwards at Smoothie King for the walk back to his apartment.

Got a lift in this afternoon which comprised of all lower leg dead lifting. Groin and abs are feeling great.

Andy and I are heading to Penn Relays tonight to watch our good friends Kent and Darcy race as well as Dylan and Catherine from Dickinson. Steeple, 10k, 5k, 10k, respectively.

I will give more details of the race with pictures on Saturday when I’m in New Hampshire with my family (and the Team Tuesday Granite Girls).

Till then, AR. NF. NR.

Day 161

The Carnegie Cup was brought back to the Cornell Crew. The rain held off even though the slight head wind grew into a much stronger gail. Tons of Cornell fans and students came out to support the team in their 2000m race. And they were not disappointed as the Varsity, JV, 3V and Freshmen boats swept every race beating the top 5 ranked Yale and Princeton with just a few weeks until the Eastern Sprints.

The Varsity Eight in street clothes after their victory.

But the day wouldn’t have been complete without the Cornell Bear making an appearance and adding to their incredible athletic accomplishment.

The men of the Varsity Eight at Cornell have worked very hard this season. They still have a few races left before Sprints and Nationals but today was definitely a hint of all the combining factors into one solid performance (power, strength, endurance, timing and technique) as a team.

The Carnegie Cup in all its glory. Congrats to Cornell again and especially to my little bro. Keep working hard. Keep working smart.

Have some great workouts this weekend. AR. NF. NR.
