Day 327

Great run along the Hudson with my good friend Billy Goat. It was weird though. We went out 2 miles and started to come back at a slightly quicker pace and I could tell he was dropping off a little. I circled back a bit and we met up again. He said he had taken a wrong turn and had to save a women who had fallen off her bike…that’s why he had fallen back. HA! Starting to feel the soreness with all the back to back SurfSet classes I’m taking in addition to the miles I’m putting on.

Important to take care of the little pains before they turn into big ones. A day of rest is sometimes more helpful to your training than getting another workout in. Especially when it comes to running. A strength training class in replace of an hour run engages the muscles that don’t normally get worked.

Day 325

Hello again from the Granite State Girls!

The body parts are screaming again as I peeled myself out of bed in the pitch dark at 4:55 am to meet Jay & head to the Y for our bi-weekly session with Scott. Without someone waiting for me on the other end, I’m quite certain that I would not be getting up that early to “wake up” the rest of me!

Lots of rolling out with the foam roller makes for a great “poor man’s massage” for starters. Some body weight lunges, forward & to the side with a few downward dog stretches make us ready to hit the weights; side planks, goblet squats & one-legged curls on the stability ball to name just a few of our early morning challenges. I never tire of the routine. So nice to have the choice to workout with people that make you laugh.

A nice breakfast of steel cut oats served with nuts, blueberries & some rice milk were a great way to keep the day moving in a positive direction.

Pausing a moment to remember our military families…..wondering what they are thinking about the upcoming election and who would best serve them. I’m not sure but would love to have a conversation with one of them to find out.

Sending hugs from Hollis, NH & Salt Lake City, Utah
xoxo

Day 321 and 322

A combination of the days due to a technical posting issue. Nevertheless, the workouts were done in style at always.

Day 321 was a 4 mile run at sub 7 pace. So excited to be back in the running game. Then went on to play a little game of horse with my co-worker and, well, lets just say I only really needed HO if you know what I mean.

Day 322 started with a Surfset Core class followed by an awesome 5 mile run. Most of the miles right around 6 minute pace. Was feeling good so I wanted to see what my uninjured body could do. Managed to drop a sub 5 in there as well. #braggingalittlebecauseitsbeensolong

Hope you’re all having a great weekend.

Day 319

In New York City. 4 mile run on the trail along the Hudson River. Great to see so many people making time to work out in a city where its very easy to get caught up doing your thing. After a brief cool down, I took a new fitness class called SurfSet Fitness. All core and balance on top of the many different upper and lower body exercises. A ridiculously good workout as well as a ton of fun.

Day 315

In beautiful Central Park in NYC. There is an awesome fitness event in the middle of the park called Fitness Games: Mind Body Spirit. Tons of event tents were set up and demoing their equipment for people to check out in addition to thousand of people running the road race. It was great to see that many people interested in the new fitness trends and took the time to come early on a Saturday morning. My whole family was there, which is always a fun time, celebrating my brothers birthday. Definitely hope to get We Are One involved in events like these. Great way to raise awareness. The picture below is During the set up of the event.

Day 311

It was just another Tuesday~waking up at 5:00; driving to the Y on very quiet streets; meeting Jay in the parking lot; class with Scott at 5:30 till 6:30.  We did the usual rolling out  to “wake up” the muscles for 15 minutes; a few lunges and stretches to limber up for the next 45 minutes of core work.  I’m feeling all those muscles now as I unwind & get ready for bed but that feeling pales in comparison to what people all over the country have felt all day long about today’s anniversary.

Dear Lord~thank you for the opportunity to serve others on this day and to be able to reflect on all the good that surrounds us. I know there is still a little cloud of pain that follows many Americans around because of the death of a loved one.  Please help us to find peace and pass it on to someone who needs it.  Watch over those who are still far from home serving in the military.

xoxo Granite Girls

Day 309

An out of order weekend but still getting it done. Team Baltimore is obviously spreading themselves around the country and getting some awesome workouts in.

I was in CT for the day on Saturday. I was visiting my brother at the Kent School. I got to see where he will be training on the river with his new team and the gorgeous campus. I went for a 2.5 mile run (getting up there in mileage…I know) along the river and next to the sporting fields. Impressive to see how many kids were up at 7 am on a Saturday morning. Might need to get them involved with WAO 365.

Day 307

Ive officially starting to get back into running shape. I have been running two miles every day and slowly increases the mileage by about a quarter mile each day. No pain which is awesome and so much fun to get back out there. Summer has come to an end but the road race season is just beginning.

Day 300

College Football beginning. Last official weekend of the summer. Biggest move in day of the year. New job. Back on the east coast. Starting to get back into running shape. What a crazy time of the year. None of this would be possible without the men and women who dedicate their lives to serve this country. I know we say it week after week but this organization has done such an outstanding job at creating a new channel for military families to have a more normal life. I can’t thank the team leaders enough, member of WAO365 and the other organizations who work with us. Thank you so much.

I know everyone has very busy schedule but even if you can get out there for 30 minutes for a workout, its benefits are amazing. Less stress, smarter brain, stronger immune system, avoid aging and the list goes on.

Another day of skiing, swimming, juggling weighted medicine balls, wifle ball and, of course, 100-100.

Day 299

So I got the standard 100/100 work out in this morning. Went on to build a granite walkway with my Dad. Then Alex and I decided to play catch with a tennis ball while water skiing. It was quite the game but more so quite the workout. Cardio, strength and hand eye coordination (along with a lesson in physics). Lots of fun.

Alex and I have added to our 100/100 workout as well. One legged pushups while raising the leg out to the side and doing a burpees like motion but without setting the leg down.
