Day 362 and 363

I finally got to experience what Team Sunday gets to do every day….workout in Baltimore. I’ve got to admit, its a pretty cool city. I got to go for a 4 mile run along the Harbor after a long day at Under Armour and Canton Club with some old college teammates from Dickinson, Kent Pecora and Darcy McDonald. The city is beautiful and the people are pretty cool. Got to experience a little bit of the night life too.

Saturday was spent teaching Surfset classes and working out in the gym in between. It’s kind of fun to just workout, teach, go back to working out, eat and then workout again. Great workouts all along.

Monday is the big day!!! Unfortunately due to the storm, the Wish Grant in DC was cancelled but we will be looking to reschedule it as well as making some cool changes to the blog.

Day 359- Where’s your energy?

We prepared for what could have been one of the worst storms since “Bob” in 1991 but Mother Nature took a turn and was kind and somewhat gentle to some of us here in New England. We were one of the lucky households that didn’t loose power and didn’t suffer any damage. A hurricane of that magnitude creating wind & rain conditions beyond belief in some areas is hard to fathom. My heart goes out to all those who weren’t so lucky.

I went to the smaller more modern YMCA this am @ 9:00 as my usual watering hole had no power. The place was crowded with people of all ages as school has been cancelled for 2 days now. It was strange for me to be with a vibrant group of people as I’m so used to the quiet few at 5:30 am. I didn’t really want to go but forced myself to do my own “Body by Scotty” rountine with some stretching, rolling & core exercises followed by 30 minutes of some pretty hilly terrain on the stationary bike. It was a good sweat and I was glad that I mustered up the attitude and the energy to go work out.

I’m sure it takes alot of energy to get through a single day for our military families across the nation. Here’s to whatever you need to muster up the energy to keep working out on a daily basis!

Day 356

We doubled up on days which means more workouts for the challenge! Crazy to think that the 365 day challenge has almost come to an end. Excited for the new changes which will turn Team leaders into City leaders. WAO making the challenge as big as possible.

Back in NY for the start of the SurfSet tour. Got a great run in this morning and hoping to get another one in this evening along the Hudson.

Gorgeous fall day. Be sure to check out the 1st 365 day challenge celebration at Mint Gym in DC next Sunday (the 4th) with Surfset and Healthyheroday.org. Grating some Christmas wishes for veterans!

Day 353

It’s funny how some mornings I wake up shortly before my alarm goes off and others I hit that snooze button with a vengeance.  This morning was another one hour session with Scott.  Our first 15 minutes is always rolling out and hitting those areas that need some TLC before we turn to the weights.  Rolling out has become a favorite way to begin my sessions.

Speaking of tender spots~am sure all of the families out there who aren’t sure if their loved ones are safe walk around every day with a very tender heart.  So…… no complaining tomorrow when you feel those exercises you did the day before!  Suck it up!

Day 342 and 343

Hey 365ers!

Friday was a great workout in NYC with my brother. We did a little workout at Chelsea Piers, this massive 33 acre gym right on the Hudson followed by a, of course, competitive game of Horse. Things came down to the wire but I think we all know who pulled out the W.

Just got back from a nice long run alongside the Hudson and into Central Park a little. Things are getting a bit nippy over here on the East coast. I haven’t experienced a Fall in over two years so this is a nice change of pace.

Body is feeling strong thanks to SurfSet classes and actually listening to my body this time. Very excited for this fall as I will be traveling to 25 cities over the course of 2 months for work. I’ll let you know where we will be!

Day 339

It’s a little cool here in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I’m sure it’s similar to the weather back home but the mood here at 1600 is definitely different than Hollis, NH.  I missed body by Scotty this am with Jay so took to the streets!

I told my Mom I’d go to church with her and my Dad this am so as not to lose out on an early morning workout and keep true to my word, I dressed in my running clothes on this misty dreary day and got in the car @ 7 with them to head to st. Vincent’s on the south side. As a kid I would never have run from there back home. Made Mom clock it to see how far it was. Imagine that…only 2.4 miles! I was home in no time. Took me about 24 mins…..and I didn’t melt. Dad was sure I’d change my mind if it started raining harder. It was a great feeling to run past all the long forgotten familiar sites.

I respect the military families who may be giving their children a very different childhood memory than the one i have of living in the same house for so many years.  However, i am sure the flexibility from moving around will serve them well in the years ahead.

Here’s to happy times as a kid no matter where you grew up!

Day 335 and 336

Sorry for the out of order posts.

Friday was a quick 4 mile run with sets of 100/100 as well as some pull ups thrown into the mix.

Saturday was two Surfset classes back to back followed by a short 2 mile shake out run. Definitely needed rest after that. (Pictured is a member of Surfset doing a Water Walker on our board)

Very excited for all the WAO members as we come into our final month for the 365 Day Challenge. Although we have been working out every day and making great progress with the organization, we still have a lot of exciting things to accomplish.

Day 332

I’m getting into a Tuesday groove at o’dark thirty.  It’s a good routine.  Set alarm night before; get up after only one snooze button; walk quietly into bathroom with light from phone app; brush teeth; put on workout clothes laid out the night before; go quietly down the stairs; put shoes on & exit the house with enough time to drive to the Y; park; walk in & hope I don’t have toothpaste on my face cuz I still haven’t been in enough light to look at myself!

Body by Scotty proved to be another hours worth of body workout that left me feeling strong wanting to stand up straight & tall.  One of my favorites are the knee pull ups…..really good for the core!  Afterwards, Jay & I decided to do a quick expresso bike.  It was a 25 min city express with some pretty nasty hills.  Was sweating up a storm & feeling awesome! Nice to face whatever lies ahead in my day after putting my body & mind to the challenge first thing in the morning!

Not sure if it’s a good thing to be in a routine as a military family but know that they deserve more than a round of applause.  Their body & minds go through a routine some of us could not even imagine.  Hats off to you! I hope whoever is voted into the presidency surrounds himself with people who will watch your back!

Day 328 and 329

Friday: Run along Hudson Parkway. Really aren’t too many uninterrupted paths/areas to run in throughout NYC so my options are limited. 4 miles at 7 minute pace. Everything felt good which is always a good sign.

Saturday: Did sets of pushups and sit ups on the SurfSet board after another run along the Hudson. Always fun seeing the type of people who are staying active on Saturdays. All sorts of characters but very happy to see them out and about.
