Day 218: Baltimore

We hope everyone enjoyed the great weather this Father’s Day.  The 2012 Sailabration came to Baltimore on Saturday and Sunday, commemorating the bicentennial of The War of 1812.  The city was active all weekend, as Baltimorians flooded to their rooftop decks to watch the Air Show put on by the US Navy, featuring the Blue Angels.

The Baltimore Team also had a great weekend of workouts.  The Vogt family, featuring Drew, Megan, Stacy, Jack, and Mary-Jo (snapping the pic), played tennis on Sunday morning up at Hereford High School.

On top of that, WAO veteran Erich Raschid hiked Harper’s Ferry and brought along We Are One first timer, Lauren Avara.  They had a great time and the Baltimore squad just might have to organize a team hike before the Summer ends.

We hope everyone has a productive and fulfilling week.  The Oriole flavored We Are One shirts are in for all your O’s fans out there.

Enjoy the week.

Sunday in Baltimore

We had a lot going on in Baltimore this Sunday.  We had a big crew venture over to the Merritt this morning for our workout.  I lifted and ran a few miles  down to Fort McHenry.  Sarah McColley did a 60 minute cardio routine, using the treadmill, bike, elliptical and a jump rope.  Chris Diller lifted as well and took a 2 mile run after his workout.  Ali Wilman also got in a solid cardio workout.

Drew Vogt, Jack Vogt, and Matt Vogt headed to the Eastern Shore where they completed a 6 mile run, 43 mile bike, 6 mile run biathlon.

To top it all off, Chris Diller played hockey this evening, getting his second workout of the day in.  It’s been a great day.  Summer’s here.  Enjoy the week.

Day 190 from Baltimore

It was a beautiful day in the Charm City this afternoon.  I took a jog around the harbor on a route similar to the one we took during our launch event.  Drew Vogt did a run/bike circuit up north in Hereford.

We are making progress with our donation from the money raised during our event.  A portion of the proceeds are going toward the Snyder-Anderson Memorial Fund  (http://www.anderson-snyder.info/).  Josh Snyder and Norman Anderson graduated from Hereford High a few years before several of us on the Baltimore team, and we’re proud to help this organization.

Additionally, we are working with an American Legion chapter to help provide general living supplies to families of wounded vets.  More to come as we finalize this portion.

Keep those workouts coming, and enjoy the week.

Baltimore Travels to Ocean City

This weekend, Team Baltimore headed East to Ocean City, Maryland for the 8th annual Half Marathon and 5k. Drew Vogt, Matt Vogt, and myself got up at the crack of dawn, joined up with the 4,000 other racers, and began our 13.1 mile journey at 7am while wearing a combination of We Are One 365 shirts and wristbands.

The weather could not have been better and the three of us truly enjoyed the feeling of finishing a 13 mile trek before 9am while keeping WAO in our minds.

Stay tuned as we finalize the results from the Baltimore Kickoff Event in March. We should have some exciting news soon. Enjoy the week.

Raining in Baltimore

Even though the rains finally came this weekend, Chris Diller and his family managed to get up at the crack of dawn this morning and drive up to Towson, where they ran the Hopewell Reachout 5k at Goucher College with the Chase Family.  Chris didn’t rock his WAO gear, but you’ll notice his brother Brian did for his debut on the blog.

The event had a successful turnout, and the race benefited the Hopewell Cancer Support.

Team Baltimore will be traveling to the beach this coming weekend to run the Ocean City Half Marathon and we’re excited about the opportunity. Stay tuned.

Enjoy the week.

Happy Easter from Baltimore

Team Baltimore would like to wish everyone who celebrates, a Happy Easter.  The Baltimore team put in a lot of family time this weekend, but that didn’t stop Stacy Vogt from getting a cardio workout in on Easter Sunday.

We would also like to thank everyone who came out to the kick-off event last weekend as well as our sponsors. We hope to have a full update on the results of the event shortly.

Enjoy the week.

Raquetball, Soccer and the Baltimore Kick-Off

The Baltimore Team is extremely excited about the upcoming kick-off event this Saturday. We have a 3-4 mile group jog planned around the inner harbor starting at 10am.  We’re expecting a sunny day in the 60s.  You can’t ask for better weather in March when you get to run around this:

That evening, Mother’s Bar and Grill is hosting us for a 3 hour full open bar (minus the top shelf).  If you haven’t purchased your ticket yet, head to weareone365baltimore.eventbrite.com.

The Baltimore team got an excellent Sunday workout in as well.  Drew Vogt, Graham Becker, and Dan Foltin played soccer this afternoon and came out on top, each scoring at least 1 goal in the contest.  Must have been the dry-fits.

Additionally, Chris Diller and I hit the Merritt to get a lift in.  Our regular pick-up basketball game has been postponed the last few weeks due to construction at the school we play at, so we decided to change up our cardio workout.  Erich Raschid joined us later in the afternoon to play a few games a raquetball.  Not only was it a great workout, it was a lot of fun too.

As always, enjoy the week.  Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday.

Hikes and Hockey in Baltimore

It’s been an exciting week in the Charm City. The Baltimore Kick-Off Event is set for March 31 with a 5k in the morning around the inner harbor and an open bar social at Mother’s that night.  As we like to say around here, “too easy.”  A few of the Baltimore team members chose to celebrate in true We Are One fashion, by getting a great Sunday workout in.

Chris Diller ran in the St. Patrick’s Day 5k this afternoon.  Tonight, Chris and Mark Wheeler played in the opening round of their hockey league’s playoffs.  No word yet on the results, but I imagine it ended with the ice covered in hats shortly after Mark scored the game winner with minutes left in the third period. MARCH 12 UPDATE: Chris scored 2 goals in regulation, 1 of which sent the game into a shootout.  Mark scored on his only penalty shot and helped secure the victory over the Baltimore City Fire Dept. squad.  Congrats to both teams, but Harbor City/We Are One Hockey is moving on to the next round!!!

Baltimore wasn’t finished with the efforts of Mark and Chris.  Erich Raschid and Marty Ensor hit the highway this morning and went to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.  They hiked 9 miles on Old Rag Mountain.  The hike was challenging, but the views more than made up for it.  It might be wise to take these two eagle scouts a little more seriously next time they ask if I want to get up at the crack of dawn to go hiking.

Baltimore is the greatest city in the world.  But this sure is a nice view.

Enjoy the week coming up and get ready for Baltimore’s launch event in 3 short weeks.  The Baltimore team and our growing list of sponsors are putting forth their best effort to ensure the day is something the city will be proud of.

Cheers.

Day 107: Sunday Morning Hoops

Drew and I played pick-up basketball this morning at a local Baltimore high school. It’s been a regular game for the last few months and we enjoyed incorporating the group with the We Are One 365 day challenge. Games and activities like this are really helping us spread the word about the Baltimore Chapter of We Are One as we are planning our spring kick-off event.

Luckily for We Are One Boston, we can’t make the trip up for their basketball tournament this upcoming weekend. I hear they have put a tremendous amount of work into the event and it would be a shame for us to bring the inaugural championship back to Baltimore.

Enjoy the Week.
