Day 314

Happy Friday!  Feeling a bit under the weather here in Minneapolis, but still able to get to a Barre class early this morning.  Dangerously obsessed over here…the mix between core, cardio, ballet, yoga and pilates is addicting.  Every class I feel as though I have pushed myself and each muscle to capacity–a really great feeling to start the day with!  This class is in a fairly small room  so the women on the next mat are great inspiration to finish those last few push ups!  A little competition always adds some fun to your workout, right?

While I am still on my Barre kick…I am missing running and feel like I need to sign up for a race soon–any suggestions??

Day 276

Good Morning from beautiful Minneapolis!!  The weather today makes me excited for fall…barely reaching 70 and perfect for running!  In the past few weeks I have started a new workout that I am obsessed with.  Going to these Barre classes is working my body in ways that I never have before.  More planks and push ups than I have ever done before followed by leg lifts and balance poses…seriously awesome and I would suggest it to anyone.  They are 6:30 am classes which can be tough…but it is so fun and such a great way to start my day that don’t find myself dreading it!  Great start to my weekend… and today is so beautiful out I might have to squeeze in a run later….ahhh gotta love a day off!

Day 256

The Olympics are finally here!!  There are many reasons why I love the Games.  It is so inspiring to see all of the talented and determined athletes compete.  We come together as a country and feel the emotions that come along with winning the gold and breaking records.  It is a time to show our patriotism by supporting our country as a little act of thanks.  In these 17 exciting days of competition, may we remember those in the military who are just as talented, determined and devoted to our country.  Every time you workout, let the thought of the athletes and military that represent the US push you that much further.  It certainly will make me!

This morning I had a great run…while donning by Olympic gear, I ran a quick 4 mile loop around the lake.  It was a cool 70 and just a perfect way to start the day.  I even went as far and downloaded the Olympic theme song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bXy72_4X8w) to listen to for a little more inspiration.  With that…GO USA!!!

Day 237

Out in beautiful New Hampshire for a long weekend. It has been so hot in Minnepolis lately that running outside has been unbearable, so a quick run along the breezy shore was perfect!   Since I’m not training for any race at the moment, I haven’t been getting out as regularly.  Instead I have been enjoying early morning yoga on the lake :).Definitely missing having a schedule to keep me on track so I think I have decided to do another half marathon this fall.  Any suggestions of good ones in the Midwest?

Day 188

Well, its Friday again!  I haven’t talked to everyone since my half marathon.  Despite my training not being as rigorous as I would have liked it to be, I had a great time!  I came in at 2 hrs and 56 sec.  Not great, but I’ll take it!  It felt awesome to get back in the racing environment.  I started off slow and a bit more cautious to not wear my self down but around mile three I was feeling great so amped it up.  The route was beautiful–a lot of quick, steep, hills but we ran along the water and past some beautiful homes most of the time which made it go by a little faster.   In the miles that got a little harder…for me it was mile 7 to 9…a quote that I actually saw on Pinterest would pop into my head…. “Someday I won’t be able to do this.  Today is not that day.”  Something about those words have really stuck with me and is the perfect beat in my head when the miles got long and pushed me to catch up to the person in the distance.  It helped!

Well, another half under my belt.  Whenever I get done with a race it makes me want to go sign up for another right away!  I haven’t decided which one yet, but there are a TON to choose from during summers in Minneapolis : )  Any suggestions??

Happy Weekend!

Day 174

I cannot believe it is May already!!  This means my half marathon is THIS weekend!  Craziness.  Unfortunately with starting a new job and busy with other freelance stuff, my training got put on the back burner for a couple weeks.  While I was keeping active with yoga, walks and shorter runs here and there, I haven’t had a solid, long run.  Despite this, I’m still going to run on Sunday.  I made the commitment a couple months back and I know I can finish it.  While it might not be my best time, it will be an awesome Sunday workout and I know I’ll be super pumped to finish.    I’m hoping to come in around 2 hours….crossing my fingers : )  So send some wishes my way and I’ll let you all know!

As for today…a quick run around the lake to beat the rain was all I could fit in.  Felt pretty good but definitely needed a good stretch when I got home.

That’s all for now!!  Happy Friday!

Day 147

So this week was busy busy!  I started a new job on Wednesday and have, consequently, been very busy….making it very hard to squeeze in a workout.  For today, I had to forego my run and instead did a quick 15 minute circuit at home.  I did squats, lunges, pushups and abs until muscle exhaustion.  Although it doesn’t beat getting out there for a run or an hour long yoga sesh….it definitely makes my day better to get my heart pumping and feel a little better too!

Have a great holiday weekend everyone!!!

Day 133

Happy Friday!!

Today was beautiful in Minneapolis!  I was fortunate enough to get out for a run and squeeze in a yoga class.  Had a little trouble this run- headache and super hot (my body isn’t used to warm weather running quite yet!)  Got through the 4ish miles though in pretty good time but I definitely need to amp up my training.

It was great to be able to do yoga after my run so that I could relax a bit.  My muscles were definitely sore from my workouts this week but in a good way.  This class was great though because we would hold each pose for longer than normal to the point where my muscles just felt exhausted at the end.  I love that feeling and its a great way to start the weekend!

Day 112

“I always loved running…it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.”
Jesse Owens

Ok, I must admit, I haven’t ‘always loved running’ but I would say I have learned to love running….most of the time, anyways!  When I decide to train for a race, it is for any number of reasons.  Sometimes I will sign up for motivation to keep in shape or to beat a time (mine or someone else’s)  For this half marathon, though, it was because I genuinely wanted to run.  With this, I realize that in the past three or so years, I have become a runner.  Prior to this realization I would have never described myself as a runner, but rather someone who runs for a workout.  I think there is definitely a difference in these types of people.

So what made me a runner all of the sudden?  I think it is the yearning for a great run on a nice warm day (its a whooping 38 degrees in Minneapolis today!) and knowing that I can go and push myself as far as my body will take me (reason for the quote above).  Somedays are better than others…today a 5 mile run felt great though.  A little rough in the beginning, loosening up my joints and feeling my hips and thighs that were worked to the max in yoga last night.  But by a mile or so in, I was dodging ice patches like it was nobodies business and feeling great.  Although running in the winter in Minneapolis is not reliable in terms of weather, it makes me appreciate the bits of sunshine we get and the well plowed sidewalks that make a cold run a little easier.

All in all a great run, one where I finished feeling like I can’t wait to get back out there tomorrow.  Happy weekend!!!

oh! and sorry for the lack of pictures….I’ll work on it!!

Day 98: TGIF

Lucky you!  Today you get to hear from both team leaders….Happy Friday, folks.
No coincidence that Emily and I got asked to blog on the coolest day of the week. We might be the odd couple of the WAO 365 team, seeing how we’ve only met a few times, and just made it official on the book.
I am Maxim Willwerth, half of this powerful duo. I am a senior at Plymouth State University, it’s a small school in NH, sort of like Dartmouth, sort of not.  I find it very humbling to be part of this organization and hope I can be a helpful addition.
Hi there!  I’m Emily, here to round off your week.  Having graduated from the University of Notre Dame in May, I  have recently moved to the Land of 10,000 Lakes where I am a graphic designer.  I love the what Minneapolis has to offer and I hope to share a bit of the city with all of you through this blog.  I am a new yoga addict and am starting to train for my third half marathon.  SO excited to be able to contribute to WAO 365!
This was my first week of training for the Minnetoka Half Marathon in May.  Previously, I have trained for races (both full and half marathons) to stay in shape and to cross it off my bucket list.  This time, however, I really want to focus on speed….we’ll see how that goes    ; ) Today was a rest from running and instead, I got to enjoy a long yoga class.  Still a newbie, I have trouble finding total relaxation while in practice since I am focusing on the unfamiliar positions I am twisting my body into.  That said, it feels great when I’m finished and I think yoga will be an awesome way to balance out my training!
Tune in for Max’s post next week!  In the mean time, enjoy a nice Friday workout to kickstart your weekend right.
