This weekend was the weekend many of us from team Baltimore have been looking forward to for months, the Baltimore Running Festival weekend! There’s no better workout then running through the most beautiful city in the world with 30,000 runners and many more supporters cheering you on the whole way.

This marks the third year Team Baltimore has run in the Baltimore Running Festival and each year we have had an increased number of participants. It was a beautiful day for a run, we could not ask for better weather. Everyone from team Baltimore finished their respective races and had a blast doing so.

We hope everyone had a great weekend and has a fantastic week.

Until next Sunday,

-Team Baltimore

Day 330 – Biking Around Baltimore

It was an exciting weekend here in Baltimore. The Orioles had a crucial three game home stand against the Boston Red Sox. It was a huge series as the season draws to an end and the Orioles came away with the sweep. For the first time in 15 years Our Baltimore Orioles will be in the playoffs!!!

Obviously this is an exciting time for the city and everyone was out and about in anticipation and celebration. Saturday night into Sunday morning Mike Kirby got his weekend workout in by biking all the celebrating Baltimoreans around the city in Baltimore’s newest form of transportation, The Bow Tie Bike Cabs. As a driver of one of these Pedicabs, over a 6 hour time span you ride a bike approximately 20 miles with the extra weight of 1-3 people you’re towing in the passenger cab behind you. This, without a doubt, is a fantastic workout. And it leaves Mike that much more confident in beating Chris Diller, Matt Vogt and Jack Vogt in the Baltimore Half Marathon in two weeks.

Below is a picture of Mike driving four fans to the game on Saturday night.

Day 316 – Baltimore Meets Dewey Triathalon

Team Baltimore had a great time at the Dewey Beach Triathlon this weekend. The race consisted of a .5 mile swim, 15 mile bike and 3.5 mile run. It was a beautiful day for a race but there was a strong north to south wind that made the swim and second half of the bike extremely difficult. It was a battle but everyone completed the race and had a great time! Participants included Mike Kirby, Sarah McColley, Kelly Welsh, Alex Walsh, Matt Mazza, Amelia Burchard, Mia Szkolnicki, Brittney Hatrack and myself.

Getting in an early morning workout really sets the tone for a great weekend and a great weekend was had by all! The multi hour workout will really help with the training for the Baltimore Half Marathon on October 13th where Team Baltimore is going to have quite the showing. Join us if you’ll be in town that weekend.

Have a great week everyone, see you next Sunday!

Day 301 – Baltimore in the West Coast

Team Baltimore is blogging to you live from the west coast. Daniel Segura is the first Vogt cousin to get married. The wedding is next week, so many of the Vogt family headed out west a week early for a California vacation. We are currently in San Francisco, where the weather and views are unbeatable. We took a trip across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Forest to go for a hike through the red woods, the tallest trees in the world! We went for a 6 mile loop that took us to the top of the mountain overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Below is a picture of Matt Vogt, Jenny Vogt, Michelle Vogt, Jimmy Segura, Eric McLinko, Teresa Weldon & myself. It was a steep ascent to the top over 6 miles, so everyone had a great workout!

We hope everyone is having a great long Labor Day weekend! While you’re enjoying your weekend remember what Labor Day is all about and why it’s possible for you to enjoy your weekend and freedom however you want!

Baltimore out, see you all next Sunday!

Day 287 – Baltimore on the Road

This weekend parts of the Vogt family headed up to the Pocono Mountains to meetup for the weekend.  It was a highly active weekend and the activities got started early this morning!  To kick things off Matt Vogt, Peter Vogt and I went for a 6.3 mile run around the beautiful Lake Hauto.  After a short break, we headed to the basketball courts.ImageImage

Above is a 3v4 basketball game consisting of Matt Vogt, Ben Vogt & Sam Vogt vs Kevin Sherry, Spencer Vogt, David Vogt, & myself.  It was a hard fought battle over a two game series and despite the ankle biting tactics of the two young bucks; Spencer and David, the 3 man squad was able to take down the 4 man squad. It’s an up hill battle when Matt Vogt squats in the lane and throws his body weight around!

Next up was tennis:

Above is a doubles match between Peter Vogt & Sue Sherry vs Vivian Vogt & Mary Singer.  As you can tell by the action shots above, this match got pretty intense! Even though Peter had to use his over powering serve more often then he anticipated, there were still plenty of great volleys which created a solid workout for everyone.

It was a great weekend in the Poconos and the Vogt’s had a great time taking advantage of the beautiful weather to get in some great activities and workouts!

Have a great week!

Day 265 – Baltimore Beach

Inspired by the Olympics, the members of team Baltimore took to the volleyball courts this weekend. There are some great beach volleyball courts at Rash Field at the inner harbor in Baltimore, where we played some pickup 4 v 4.

Later many members of team Baltimore headed up to Hereford, where we played some backyard volleyball. We had a 2 v 2 tournament where Graham Becker and myself beat up on the other teams of Dan Valerino/Jon Pugh, and Jason Cimino/Scott Kirby.

It was a fun filled, activity packed weekend!

Have a great week! Go USA!!

Day 251 – Its Raining in Baltimore

It was a rainy weekend here in Baltimore. The picture below was taken from right outside my front door.

The rain was plentiful, but it helped to really cool down the air temperature, which has been a nice break from the crazy heat we have had the past couple of weeks. We did have some breaks from the rain, during which members of Team Baltimore got out and got active. We didn’t have any group runs this week, but a couple of us went out individually and ran through the beautiful streets and downtown Baltimore, incorporating great views like Fort McHenry and the Inner Harbor.

Day 239 – Back in Baltimore

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July week! The Vogt family returned from a great week at the beach where there was plenty of working out going on. Everyone was preparing for the annual 4th of July Firecracker 5000 5k Race. Below is a picture of all the racers, all of whom had great races.

20120708-204526.jpg

The working out didn’t end at the beach though. Everyone had some extra vacation indulgences to work off. Today Michelle Vogt worked out of the elliptical, while Megan Vogt and Jack Vogt ran on the treadmill. Workouts were kept in doors today to avoid the heat.

Hopefully the weather will cool off here in Baltimore this week so everyone can get back to their outdoor workouts.

4th of July is a holiday to celebrate our independence, let’s not forget all the sacrifices that were made in order to give us that independence. And the continued sacrifices being made to maintain our independence.

Day 225 – Baltimore

We had another beautiful early summer weekend in Baltimore. In between the Orioles beating up on the Nationals this weekend, members from Team Baltimore went out and got active.

Mike Kirby went for a 3 mile run this morning in his new We Are One 365 – Baltimore Tee. The new Baltimore colored tee-shirts are in and they look great! Contact the We Are One 365 team if you are interested in getting one.

Baltimore had a visitor for the weekend, Jeremiah Trostle.  Jeremiah took advantage of the gorgeous Baltimore  scenery and went for a 4 mile run along the Inner Harbor.

I have yet to get my workout in for the day, but shortly after this post I will be heading out for a run down to Fort McHenry.  If anyone wants to join, let me know!

It was a great weekend here in Baltimore, especially with the Orioles taking 2 of 3 from the Nationals.

Have a great week and lets go O’s!

Day 211 – Blistering Baltimore

Summer is in full force here in Baltimore, with temperatures in the mid 90s all weekend. Despite the heat, many members of Team Baltimore remained active this weekend.

On Saturday Perry Menzies participated in the annual Hereford High School Alumni lacrosse game. He was feeling particularly unselfish out there, so for most of the game he was distributing the ball to his teammates, however, he did finish the game with a goal.

Today Mike Kirby and Chris Diller beat the heat and went for an early morning 7 mile bike ride though Baltimore City. The highlight of their ride was the beautiful loop around Fort McHenry, which showcases the spectacular Baltimore Harbor. They went early to beat the mid day heat, but they were still able to get a good sweat in and enjoy their workout.

Another beautiful weekend here in Baltimore. We hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as well. Have a great week!
