Softball in Baltimore

It was a great weekend in Baltimore as we continue to prepare for our 5K trail run at Gunpowder State Park coming up on May 5th, mark your calendars!

Many members from Team Baltimore have recently joined a Friday night softball league. We have 3 weeks before the season starts, so spring training started this Sunday. Chris Diller, Mike Kirby, Graham Becker, Erich Raschid and myself went to the local Riverside park for a few hours of batting and fielding practice. It was a great way to get active on a nice spring Sunday and running around the outfield can be a great workout.

Stay active my friends.

Ballin’ in Baltimore

We had a beautiful weekend here in Baltimore with sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s. It was a great weekend to get active. Today a bunch of members from Team Baltimore met to play pickup basketball at one of the local gyms. Marty Ensor, Mike Myslinski, Brett Yoder, Adam Desantis and myself battled in a 5 on 5, 3 game series.

Basketball is unique in the type of stamina it requires. It’s a whole lot different then going out and running a few miles. The only way to get into good basketball shape is playing a lot of basketball! It always feels great to change up workouts and throwing a few games of basketball into the mix is a great way of doing that.

Have a great weekend WAO’ers. See you next week!

Baltimore Run

In preparation for the DC Rock and Roll Half Marathon coming up in a couple of weeks it is time to start increasing my miles. This weekend I went for an 8.5 mike run throughout the streets of Baltimore. I incorporated my favorite loops around Fort McHenry and the Inner Harbor.

This was a solo run, which can always get boring at times. However I recently discovered a new app called Strava. The app will record your run using GPS then map out the whole run and compare your times to others who have run the same routes. It’s a great way to keep yourself motivated when you don’t have a buddy to run with. If you haven’t already heard about it, I would highly recommend checking it out!

Have a great week!

Climbing in Bmore

This weekend Team Baltimore headed up North to do some indoor rock climbing at Earth Treks in Timonium, MD. Graham Becker, Perry Menzies, Jason Cimino and Drew Vogt got in a good two hour climbing session doing a combo of wall climbing and bouldering. Being rock climbing rookies you feel great early on in the climb, but it doesn’t take long before your whole body begins to get fatigued and you develop the shakes. Climbing is, without a doubt, a fantastic full body workout. If you have a rock climbing gym nearby you should absolutely consider going at some point!

Good Evening We Are One Nation!

I hope you all have been surviving the cold weather that has been plaguing the East Coast this past week. Down here in Baltimore our hearts and bodies have been warmed by the recent AFC Championship win over the New England Patriots. In an effort to stay active, even during the coldest week of the winter, Team Baltimore took to the streets for a nice run around our Federal Hill neighborhood. Our 3.2 mile jog took us down around M&T Bank Stadium and back up to the top of Federal Hill for a gorgeous overlook of the Inner Harbor.

It was a big weekend here in Baltimore with the Ravens miraculous overtime win yesterday. The city is bleeding purple right now with support for the Ravens popping up all over. On a run this morning Mike Kirby and Drew Vogt incorporated a visit to a giant Ravens logo painted on Federal Hill. The run was a 2.5 mile run with hill runs in the middle during our stop at Federal Hill.

Day 33 – Bmore

It was a beautiful weekend here in Baltimore with temperatures in the mid 50s. This weekend Mike Kirby had an early morning workout at the local gym. He combined a lifting workout with a cardio workout. Afterwards he treated himself to a protein milkshake. He works hard for his protein milkshakes!!

We hope everyone has a great week. See you next week.

Day 19 from Baltimore

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend. We have so much to be thankful, especially for our troops who serve to protect our country and the great traditions that we have.

In Baltimore there were many activities over the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Vogt family ran in the annual Towson YMCA 5k Turkey Trot, which has become a family tradition and is a great way to kickstart Thanksgiving and the full day of feasting.

There was also the annual Hereford High School Turkey Bowl, where the class of 2005 takes on the class of 2006. Every year 2005 beats up on the young bucks from 2006 and this year was no different…. However, it’s always competitive and proves to be a great workout and one that you feel for the next couple of days.

We hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving weekend!

See you next week.

Day 6 – Veterans Day

Happy Veterans Day to all the Veterans out there! We can not thank you enough for all that you do for this Country.

On this Veterans Day weekend Mike Kirby and Chris Diller went to the gym for a stationary bike workout. Below is a picture of Chris pumping away on his bike.

Remember to take the time to thank a Veteran today. They cannot be thanked enough for the sacrifice they make for our Country.

Enjoy the week!

Day 357 – Walk Now For Autism

This weekend team Baltimore volunteered at the Walk Now For Autism event. The event consisted of a 2.5 mile walk throughout Baltimore and being that Baltimore is the most beautiful city in the world, you can imagine how beautiful the walk was! It was a gorgeous day for a walk and the turnout was fantastic with thousands of people showing up to walk.

Pictured below during the pre-walk setup is Mike Kirby, Sarah McColley, Drew Vogt, Chris Diller, Perry Menzies, Scooter Kirby, Ryan Farrell and Erich Raschid.
