Day 308: Team Baltimore Getting it Done

I hope everyone’s had a great week.  It’s been a busy Saturday and Sunday, with Team Baltimore getting in their final training sessions before the Dewey Beach Triathlon this upcoming Saturday.  The race features a 1/2 mile ocean swim, 15 mile bike, and 3 mile run.  It is the third year in a row members of We Are One 365 have participated in the race and we are looking forward to running in our WAO gear this time around.

I had an excellent final weekend of preparation.  On Saturday, I completed a 2 mile run, followed by a 10 mile bike ride.  Today, I did a 5 mile around around the city by heading around M and T Bank Stadium, Camden Yards before making it over to the inner harbor for my regular loop.

Chris Diller and his younger brother Brian also participated in a 5k around the city with some family friends this morning.  Below is a picture from after the race.

And lastly, the Vogt family has been on the West Coast and visited Yosemite for parts of their trip.  Miles and miles of hiking led them to some pretty fantastic views.

Enjoy the rest of the week.  With over 10 We Are One members heading to Dewey for the Triathlon from Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York, we should have some great pics and stories to tell next Sunday.  See you then.

Day 307

Ive officially starting to get back into running shape. I have been running two miles every day and slowly increases the mileage by about a quarter mile each day. No pain which is awesome and so much fun to get back out there. Summer has come to an end but the road race season is just beginning.

Day 306

Circuit workout with the Soccer team:

It was a 30 station circuit with each station lasting for 30 seconds.  Stations varied from jumping rope to tractor tire dead lifts.  None of the stations are repeated and we went through every station once. The workout is organized and monitored by the Western Reserve Academy trainer, who does a great job.  It is not a long work out, but it is definitely one that we get a lot out of.

Day 305

Finally getting settled in at Kent School in Kent, CT and running with the Cross-Country team for Varsity Pre-Season. Woke up early and got an early run in Macedonia State Park while it was pouring down, then had a great second practice this afternoon running along the Housatonic River. All in all totaled somewhere around 11 miles, always fun to have a new season underway and to see how many people trained over the summer!

Hope everyone is having a great week and enjoying the final days of summer!

Day 304

I’m back in FL for work and was able to go for a jog today. I ran a few miles along the ocean, it was beautiful but hot! I did a combination of intervals and jogging. It’s always fun to be able to run in new places!!
Also wanted to give a shout out to my parents who have been married for 30 years today!! What an accomplishment! Love you guys!!!

Day 302

Happy Labor Day 365-ers!  Though the Los Angeles temperatures this weekend seemed to suggest otherwise, the unofficial end-of-summer has arrived.  Time to put away those white pants and start digging out the fleeces.

While I certainly had an enjoyable summer, I must admit to having a few pains of regret.  I played only a single match of tennis, went to the beach but a handful of times, rode my bike only sparingly, and saw a definitive plateau in my running.  Today I went out on a six and a half mile run and found myself tired and dehydrated afterward.  Granted it was a very hot day today, but last May, when I was at the peak of my marathon training, I would’ve just been hitting my stride at six and half, no matter the heat.  Sure, there’d be weeks during the summer when I’d be really good about working out everyday, but then I’d always manufacture an excuse to get away from it.  Somehow over the course of the last three months, I lost that addiction to exercise I had last Spring.

But I am optimistic about Autumn.  No more excuses.  I’ve got the Rock N’ Roll Los Angeles 5k on Halloween and then in November my mom and I are running the Malibu Half-Marathon.  And in 63 days, this blog turns a year old.  What a tremendous accomplishment.  I’m incredibly optimistic about the future of WAO365 and enormously proud of all the amazing work it has done for members of the armed forces and their families.  That alone serves as encouragement for me to step up my act.

So here’s to Fall.  I’m very excited for what’s to come.

See you all next Monday!

Day 301 – Baltimore in the West Coast

Team Baltimore is blogging to you live from the west coast. Daniel Segura is the first Vogt cousin to get married. The wedding is next week, so many of the Vogt family headed out west a week early for a California vacation. We are currently in San Francisco, where the weather and views are unbeatable. We took a trip across the Golden Gate Bridge to Muir Forest to go for a hike through the red woods, the tallest trees in the world! We went for a 6 mile loop that took us to the top of the mountain overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Below is a picture of Matt Vogt, Jenny Vogt, Michelle Vogt, Jimmy Segura, Eric McLinko, Teresa Weldon & myself. It was a steep ascent to the top over 6 miles, so everyone had a great workout!

We hope everyone is having a great long Labor Day weekend! While you’re enjoying your weekend remember what Labor Day is all about and why it’s possible for you to enjoy your weekend and freedom however you want!

Baltimore out, see you all next Sunday!

Day 300

College Football beginning. Last official weekend of the summer. Biggest move in day of the year. New job. Back on the east coast. Starting to get back into running shape. What a crazy time of the year. None of this would be possible without the men and women who dedicate their lives to serve this country. I know we say it week after week but this organization has done such an outstanding job at creating a new channel for military families to have a more normal life. I can’t thank the team leaders enough, member of WAO365 and the other organizations who work with us. Thank you so much.

I know everyone has very busy schedule but even if you can get out there for 30 minutes for a workout, its benefits are amazing. Less stress, smarter brain, stronger immune system, avoid aging and the list goes on.

Another day of skiing, swimming, juggling weighted medicine balls, wifle ball and, of course, 100-100.
