Day 288

Good grief, it has been hot as blazes in Los Angeles the past week.  Now I know how the rest of the country felt all summer.  I waited until about 7:30pm when the sun was going down for my usual four mile evening run, but even then it was so hot out I got fatigued after about two.  I’m certainly longing for that awesome pool I had last week.

I recently got my act together and liked We Are One 365 on Facebook.  If you haven’t done so yet, be sure to make a point to do it.  You can find more posts and pictures from your favorite Team Leaders and links to videos, articles, and other opportunities to help the troops and their families.  Check it out!

Catch ya next week!

Day 287 – Baltimore on the Road

This weekend parts of the Vogt family headed up to the Pocono Mountains to meetup for the weekend.  It was a highly active weekend and the activities got started early this morning!  To kick things off Matt Vogt, Peter Vogt and I went for a 6.3 mile run around the beautiful Lake Hauto.  After a short break, we headed to the basketball courts.ImageImage

Above is a 3v4 basketball game consisting of Matt Vogt, Ben Vogt & Sam Vogt vs Kevin Sherry, Spencer Vogt, David Vogt, & myself.  It was a hard fought battle over a two game series and despite the ankle biting tactics of the two young bucks; Spencer and David, the 3 man squad was able to take down the 4 man squad. It’s an up hill battle when Matt Vogt squats in the lane and throws his body weight around!

Next up was tennis:

Above is a doubles match between Peter Vogt & Sue Sherry vs Vivian Vogt & Mary Singer.  As you can tell by the action shots above, this match got pretty intense! Even though Peter had to use his over powering serve more often then he anticipated, there were still plenty of great volleys which created a solid workout for everyone.

It was a great weekend in the Poconos and the Vogt’s had a great time taking advantage of the beautiful weather to get in some great activities and workouts!

Have a great week!

Day 272…finally have Internet

Tough to get Internet as Wednesday was our travel day through 4 different airports. However, wasn’t tough to get our workout in. Alex and I went for a walk/hike right around 10 miles, doubled our 100/100 (because of the travel day and compensating for airport food) and then swam for 30 minutes.

I’m excited to go home. I’m wicked excited to start running. Lots of big things happening in the near future. Always taking the time to remember the lives that allow the rest of us to be so fortunate.

Day 276

Good Morning from beautiful Minneapolis!!  The weather today makes me excited for fall…barely reaching 70 and perfect for running!  In the past few weeks I have started a new workout that I am obsessed with.  Going to these Barre classes is working my body in ways that I never have before.  More planks and push ups than I have ever done before followed by leg lifts and balance poses…seriously awesome and I would suggest it to anyone.  They are 6:30 am classes which can be tough…but it is so fun and such a great way to start my day that don’t find myself dreading it!  Great start to my weekend… and today is so beautiful out I might have to squeeze in a run later….ahhh gotta love a day off!

Day 275

Today I went out for a three mile run.  I have found a new route that I enjoy that turns out to be exactly 3 miles.  I am currently in the middle of preseason for the fall soccer season.  The team has been working hard during the days and I am finding time in between sessions to continue my training.

Day 274

Wow! 2 in a row…..the Granite Girls are finally in their Tuesday groove! We have 3 days left before we compete in the Timberman Sprint Triathlon this coming Saturday. There will be five of us competing…..all in different age groups. Tim will go off first as he is our youngest male; then Lauren; then Jay; then Bear; then me. I’m in the old lady wave which suits me just fine as they are less aggressive in the water. It’s the worst part with everyone kicking & trying to just get out of the water! It’s hard to swim straight.

Anyway, I decided to go pretty hard today and biked to boot camp with my backpack. Bear came and lead the way. He was so sweet as he kept circling back so as not to get too far ahead! The route we have to take to get off the island can be a bit challenging with traffic but we made it with 6 minutes to spare before our grueling hour of bootcamp started. The entire hour was centered around the medicine ball. Whether we were lifting it over our heads or balancing on it for a plank, it was an incredible core workout resulting in an awesome sweat!

I don’t know first hand about alot of things that go on with military families in the summer but I’m sure they sweat more than just from a physical aspect. So many uncertainties on a daily basis….just making the best of each day with what they have wherever they are based. I will continue to pray for those who keep us all safe.

Day 271

While it isn’t quite the Euro-trip the Karwoski brothers are undertaking, I’ve been on a little stay-cation here in Los Angeles the past few days.  I’ve been house-sitting an awesome house in the Hollywood Hills with a great yard and an amazing pool.

Each night before I go to bed I do some laps followed by some relaxing in the hot tub.  It has been a nice treat and reminds me of how much I used to love to swim.  When I was a kid there wasn’t much you could do to get me outta the pool- I just loved being in the water.  I joined my neighborhood swim team when I was nine or ten and kept at it through high school.

These days I rarely get an opportunity to do it anymore.  Not belonging to a gym, I’m hard-pressed to find a pool to use.  But it is great exercise, and I’m always beat after a good swim.  One of these days, when I finally have the means to join a gym, I’ll get back into my swimming habits.

All right, time for my nightly dip.  See you all next week!

Baltimore: Day 270

The Dewey Triathlon is just about a month away.  It’s crunch time for anyone looking to hit a specific time this year. Drew Vogt continued his training with a 3.5 mile run around Fort McHenry, followed up by a 30 minute bike ride at the Merritt.

I was in New Jersey on Sunday, and did a 2.5 mile run around the Robbinsville High School track.

Along with the Dewey Triathlon in September, Team Baltimore is also training for our third Baltimore Half Marathon in October.  We’re looking forward to supporting We Are One 365 at those events this year.

Enjoy the Week,

Team Baltimore

Day 269

Another day of biking for Alex and I. We went all over Paris but not while following a tour bus. Today we rented bikes and they were free if you only used them for 30 minutes. After that, you had to pay. So, naturally, Alex and I booked it from one renting station to the next in order to make it within the time frame. Paris is a big city. Don’t think the natives were used to seeing two Americans pedal on dinky little bikes with baskets on the front as fast as the scooters and buses.

So that combined with our 100/100 was quite the workout. Food thing Sunday is a travel day.
