Day 299

So I got the standard 100/100 work out in this morning. Went on to build a granite walkway with my Dad. Then Alex and I decided to play catch with a tennis ball while water skiing. It was quite the game but more so quite the workout. Cardio, strength and hand eye coordination (along with a lesson in physics). Lots of fun.

Alex and I have added to our 100/100 workout as well. One legged pushups while raising the leg out to the side and doing a burpees like motion but without setting the leg down.

Today’s workout was short and quick. A simple double 100/100 of v-ups, 6-inches of figure 8’s and 6-inches of over unders, rowing v-ups, figure 4’s, and one legged push ups. I always try to get some variation done first thing in the morning so I don’t feel guilty later in the day. Big moving day coming up so I’m just saying that that counts as a workout for all of you out there. Keep on working out!

Day 297

I am in Chicago for work this week and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go for a run along lakeshore drive! It was a beautiful sunny day in Chicago. I ran down to lake point towers and up to cast aways out on the pier!
I finished the run with a quick 50/50
Hope everyone’s having a great summer. Everyday we are thankful for our men and women in the military!

Day 296

Getting back into a routine here in Hollis~meeting with Jay at the Y @ 6:30~scheduling our Body with Scotty for the “school year” twice a week for an hour @ o’dark 30 in the am is all part of continuing the feelin’ good program I’m involved with right now. Since the triathlon is over, it feels like I’m on a physical vacation. The next race isn’t until the half marathon in Phoenix in mid-January.  Probably not a good mind set to have but somehow as the seasons are changing, the workouts need to change as well to fit the mood.

A good rolling out on the foam roller before a 30 minute stationary bike with my buddy Jay was a great sweat and enough to feel like all the body parts were working together!  Lauren is in Chicago and had the pleasure of running down Lake Shore Drive!  Nothing like a good city run~80 degrees with a slight breeze.

The day had a special happiness of its own as little Alexander Roy Holland was born~another ahtlete in the making!

Here’s to all the families who celebrate the season changes, the births, the day to day victories without their loved ones nearby to hug & share the moment.  I applaude you!

Day 295

Hey 365-ers, happy Monday to you all.  I had a tough time getting back into the grind of the work week today, as I was coming off a really awesome weekend.  My roommates and I rented a cabin at Big Bear Lake for a weekend of fun-filled activity to cap off another great summer.

On Saturday we hiked a 4.5 mile trail that traced a small portion of the Pacific Crest Trail.  As an avid hiker and camper, I continue to nurture a long held ambition to hike the entirety of the PCT, and this gave me a nice little taste of what it is all about.  The PCT is a 2,000 plus mile trail that runs from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Ocean, with a chunk of it cutting through Big Bear.  The part we hiked was a pretty steep ascent up a mountain side, which provided breathtaking views at the peak.  I really hope someday I get a chance to travel more of the PCT, as this small portion of the trail left me completely amazed.

Yesterday we went to the lake itself and got in a little swimming.  It is no secret that I absolutely love being in the water, so taking a dip in such a nice lake was a real treat for me.  We found a semi-private little beach behind some empty summer homes and called the area our own. About a half mile or so into the lake there was a little island of rocks that we swam out to and climbed up on.  From the top-most rock, the drop was about twenty feet or so, and I, being the daredevil that I am, felt the need to climb up as high as a could and jump. It was a real thrill, let me tell you.  I musta done it 6 or 7 times before I ran out of energy.  I attached a picture my buddy took of the island.  I’m one of the people climbing to the top of the cliff there in the island closest to the bottom.

Thankfully today was a nice day in Los Angeles, so, in an effort to chase those endorphins I felt all weekend, I went for a little post-work jog.  It was nice to get out, but nothing compared to the weekend.

Alas, summer is over.  Next weekend is Labor Day, the unofficial beginning of Fall.  I welcome the changing of the seasons (football is starting up again!) but I’d be lying if I told you I wasn’t a little sad summer is nearing the end.  Gotta make the most of this week I guess!

Enjoy it!  Keep up the good work!!

Day 292 and 293

I’m up at Lake Winnipesaukee in NH for the weekend playing a plethora of competitive games between my brother and our friends. Between wiffle ball, raft games, rock climbing, few runs, early morning swims, group ab sessions and even a few single rowers, the bodies will be feeling this next week. Exercise is so much more fun when you have your friends to do it with. Alex and I have managed to get all 25 people here for the weekend to partake in, whatever modified way they can, the 100/100 challenge. Such a great weekend of activities before everyone heads back to the real world and the summer comes to an end. Many current supporters and future supporters of WAO365 here. Crazy to think its been 10 months since the challenge began.

Keep up the good work and know that all of your workouts are not going unnoticed. What this organization has been able to accomplish in less than a year is unbelievable. Keep your eyes open for some exciting events near you in the next few months. We Are One, every day of the year.

Day 294: Baltimore

Team Baltimore is preparing for a very busy fall.  In three short weeks, many of us will be heading East to Dewey Beach for the Annual Dewey Beach Sprint Triathlon.  The race features a 1/2 mile ocean swim, 15 mile bike, and 3 mile run.  We have a group of at least 10 representing the We Are One 365 Baltimore team and are very excited for the race.

Additionally, the Baltimore half marathon is this October and it looks like we have another strong group participating.  We will be sure to keep you posted on some of the training the members of team  Baltimore partake in.

A short weekend cut my workout short, but I was able to get in a 3 mile run around the Harbor.  Look for some swimming and longer runs in the next few weeks.

Additionally, here is a picture of Mollie Welsh and Sarah McColley in Maine from several weeks back.  They took a trip up North and were able to get a quick workout in before taking a boat ride in the afternoon.

Enjoy the Week,

Team Baltimore

Day 290

Through my we are one shirt on and did my 100-100. I have been doing one legged push ups to engage more of my core muscles.
Simple squats after that to get my quads ready for the day! Easy to do in the shower or at the gym with added weights.
Im Excited to begin coaching at Kent, where I will be working this next year. Will be sure to upload some good we are one pictures!!
Keep up the good work

Day 289

I just arrived home after spending the last several days sorting through my parents home of 50 years. We spent 3 very intense days purging to get the home we grew up in ready for sale. Bear, Sue, Doug as well as Annette & Mike Madden were there helping out & giving 150% of effort to the cause. It was life altering. Although we weren’t setting any world records with our cleaning and dumping, we did manage to stay strong as a family, stay focused on the job at hand & feel proud that everyone came out smiling at the end.

Perhaps the life lessons I learned working closely with my siblings & my parents will help my head get my body through that morning of intensity.

You can save all the stuff you think is important~but in the end it’s keeping your body, mind & spirit in good shape. I love my life but I need to “unstuff” it so my kids don’t need a dumpster when we decide to move!

I’m thinking the military families know all about taking only what is necessary to survive! We could all take a lesson or two from the experts on essentials!

Xoxo,
