Day 240

Hey Team Monday, welcome back to the working week.  I hope everyone had a great weekend and got to spend some time outdoors.  It was hot here in LA but from what I gather the rest of the nation was even hotter!  I talked to my folks in Wisconsin and they told me it was over 100 degrees on the Fourth of July! Good heavens!

Not much new to report from my end.  The past week’s workouts went quite well; having Wednesday off of work made for a good opportunity for a long bike ride.   Today I went for a quick 5k at sunset, which proved to be quite pleasant.

Instead of a long entry this week, I’ll give you guys something I don’t offer up much; a picture!  I’m sure most of you have no idea what I even look like, so here’s one of me repping my dri-fit on a beach run.

Enjoy your week!  See you next Monday.

Day 239 – Back in Baltimore

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July week! The Vogt family returned from a great week at the beach where there was plenty of working out going on. Everyone was preparing for the annual 4th of July Firecracker 5000 5k Race. Below is a picture of all the racers, all of whom had great races.

The working out didn’t end at the beach though. Everyone had some extra vacation indulgences to work off. Today Michelle Vogt worked out of the elliptical, while Megan Vogt and Jack Vogt ran on the treadmill. Workouts were kept in doors today to avoid the heat.

Hopefully the weather will cool off here in Baltimore this week so everyone can get back to their outdoor workouts.

4th of July is a holiday to celebrate our independence, let’s not forget all the sacrifices that were made in order to give us that independence. And the continued sacrifices being made to maintain our independence.

Day 238

What an incredible day for my family. It’s been quite a week with road races, bike rides, trail runs, water skiing, barefoot skiing, wake boarding and swimming. Not only was it an unbelievable 4th of July week but it was the week of my sisters wedding. Gina had me doing ab workouts with her and making people feel guilty when she was going out for runs.

Saturday was quite the day but my family never goes without thinking about the daily sacrifices that are made by our military members. Enjoy the rest of the weekend 365ers.

And best of luck to my brother in Lithuania for the Crew World Championships.

Day 237

Out in beautiful New Hampshire for a long weekend. It has been so hot in Minnepolis lately that running outside has been unbearable, so a quick run along the breezy shore was perfect!   Since I’m not training for any race at the moment, I haven’t been getting out as regularly.  Instead I have been enjoying early morning yoga on the lake :).Definitely missing having a schedule to keep me on track so I think I have decided to do another half marathon this fall.  Any suggestions of good ones in the Midwest?

Day 236

I was excited to fill in for Tim today and support Team Thursday.

I ran a loop along Rock Creek Parkway and through the National Zoo. While the run is only just a little over two miles, it’s always a tough workout for me. The half mile or so through the Zoo is entirely uphill and plays mental tricks on me the whole way up. And, with the heat in DC today, it was extra hard.

Honestly, recognizing how small my silly half-mile struggle was in comparison to the enormous sacrifice our military makes on a daily basis got me through the run.

Day 235 – Happy 4th of July!

Happy Fourth of July!

Happy Birthday to DK!

Congratulations to lil’ Nicky for the 5-mile road race win (for the 6th consecutive year…) in just around 27:00.

Still out in Seattle training for the U23 World Championships. Only a few more practices in the USA and today had two solid race pieces. We fly out to Lithuania this coming Friday and everyone is very excited to go and race.

4- and the 8+ with our brand-new American Flag shirts.

Day 234

We’ve had a ton going on over the past few days…getting ready for my sister’s wedding! So the workouts haven’t been as frequent but still trying to get a good sweat in every day. We are gearing up for the big 5 mile 4th of July road race tomorrow!! All up hill….

We took a nice after dinner walk with my Husband tonight, who is recovering from surgery.  To think where he was a week ago, it’s absolutely amazing how resilient the human body is.

Practicing our choreographed dance for the wedding tonight was also a way to get a good sweat in!!

Happy Birthday to DK…her birthday is the 4th of July!!

Day 233

Happy (almost) 4th of July everybody!  The 4th is my absolute favorite holiday for a variety of reasons, but mainly because it serves as a great excuse for guilt free grilling, beer drinking, and meat eating.  This is my first year not spending the holiday in Wisconsin with my family.  I must admit this has left me a little bummed, but I’m excited to see what a West Coast 4th of July has to offer.  Of course I’ve gotta give a big shout out to all the troops and their families that continue to make our freedom possible.  I hope all of our fine servicemen get to spend some time with, or at least get to talk to, the ones they love on the most American of holidays.

Workouts have been going well; I’ve been running as much as I can in an effort to stay in some semblance of summer shape.  I’m not up to my pre-marathon mileage quite yet but I feel strong and healthy.

Happy 4th everyone!  Stay healthy and safe!

Team Baltimore in Dewey

Several members of the Baltimore team are spending some time this week in Dewey Beach, Delaware. On Sunday, Ben Cole, Perry Menzies, Emily Parmenter, Matt Mazza and I did a 5 mile run from the South of Dewey up to Rehoboth Beach and back. The loop was beautiful to run around, as we hit the boardwalk and ran around Silver Lake on the return trip. We also finished the workout with a few sets of pull-ups and push-ups.

Chris Diller, Sarah McColley, and Kelly Welsh also got nice runs in on Sunday morning around Dewey, with Chris doing a beach run.

It’s always great running around Baltimore, but it is definitely a treat having the Atlantic Ocean on your left for a mile. We hope everyone enjoys the Fourth of July on Wednesday. It’s going to be a great morning to get a workout in before you relax in the afternoon.

Enjoy the week.

Side note: We also have over 10 people signed up for the Dewey Beach Triathlon in September.  Registration is almost full, so if you’d like to join us for a weekend in Dewey, sign up now.

Day 231- Week before the 4th!!!

Saturday at the Lake. Family starting to roll in which means only one thing. Intense competitions regardless of what we are doing. My soon to be brother-in-law and myself went for an easy 4 mile run on Long Island (New Hampshire) and blew by my sisters on their run. It was a long day of chores followed by a nice run, swim and a push up/pull up contest with my brother-in-law. Great Saturday. Always thinking and thanking the military members for their contributions which make it possible for us to celebrate with friends and family during this incredible week, especially with the 4th of July approaching.
