Day 181

Pretty crazy here with the last week of school, but it’s almost over.

I played a few hours worth of pick up hockey, it was a good skate, great on the lungs. It’s always a nice feeling when it’s so warm outside. I followed the skate with an hour of broomball, first time with that. It was quite the experience, lot’s of tumbles but a great work out. Lot’s of cardio!

Stay sweet,

Max

Day 180

A quick 2 mile run was enough to feel the burn this week.  My workouts are lessoning throughout the week but I am still holding strong for the Blog day.  Lacrosse season is nearing an end with just two more weekends left in the season.  Our team is particularly banged up right now, with numerous kids out with injuries and others playing through injuries.  The team travels to Columbus this weekend for the Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Association Tournament.  We take off tomorrow and will play Friday and Saturday in the B Bracket.

Until next Thursday,

Tim

Day 179

This coming weekend is our Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Sprints League Championship in Worcester, MA. We have been doing tune-up rows this entire in preparation and the whole boat is getting ready for Sunday.
Final Exams started this week so I apologize for the short post but hope everyone has been having some great warmer weather workouts.

Day 178

There’s nothing like a great swim in the morning to really “wake up!”  That’s where we were today @ 6:30 before we met with Scott for our bi-weekly body sculpting.  The pool was very crowded for some reason so we had to double up in the lanes…..not my favorite but I made it work.  I was feeling strong and remembering the tips a fellow swimmer had given me about  “not letting go of the water”….a concept that took a little practice.  He frequently tells me to gliiiiiiiiiide through the water and use my torso to turn & move swiftly.  He introduced us to short flippers which are great for a little more intensity with the legs.  After a half hour swim we jumped out & met up with Scott for some very difficult one legged squats; russian body twists; planks with a knee to elbow movement; lat pull downs & some strange squatting punching motion with one of the machines to name a few.  Our legs hurt before the 2nd set of squats!

Being a part of this team & reflecting on the military families has definitely made me more aware of how I get through each day whether it’s getting up the first time the alarm goes off, complaining alot less or simply  smiling at a stranger,  I feel so blessed & privileged to be a part of a group of people who want to make a difference in their small corner of the world.  Thanks to all who have to get up early every every day & don’t have the wonderful choices that glide them through their days.

Day 177

I started a new job today! After much deliberation as to what my next step would be, I’ve decided to stay in the entertainment industry and pursue “the dream” (whatever that means). I’m working as an assistant at a small post-production company that works in film editing. The day went really well and I definitely think I made the right decision.

That being said, I wasn’t without my share of first day jitters. When I got home from work I felt very good about the day’s accomplishments, but still had lingering feelings of stress in need of release. Thankfully it was a beautiful day here in Los Angeles, and there were still a couple of hours of sunlight left, so I hit the pavement and ran a quick 4.5 miles around my neighborhood. I was all smiles when I got home, feeling great about how everything went.

I’m heading back to my home state of Wisconsin on Friday for a long weekend, so next week’s blog will be from the Dairy State! I’m gonna try and convince one of my family members to snap some photos of me in my WAO365 gear, so hopefully the drought of pictures won’t last too much longer.  Have a great week everyone!

Day 176: Bmore in the big city

A few members of team Baltimore made a trip up to NYC for the weekend. During our stay, we went for a nice jog around Central Park. However, the real workout came when it was time to catch the bus back to Baltimore and there were no cabs to get us to the train station – this is where we got our sprint workouts in for the day. Our warm-up sprint was the sprint from the subway to the shuttle, followed by the sprint from the shuttle to the bus station. Mike Kirby was very proud of the PR he set with a 2-block sprint in 20.5 seconds.

The rest of Team Baltimore stayed back home to hold down the fort – below is a picture of Mark Wheeler doing tree trunk curls while rocking his WAO365 shirt.

All is well in Baltimore as the team continues to spread the word of WAO365 AND the Orioles just completed a sweep of the Red Socks. It doesn’t get much better!

We hope everyone has a great week!

Day 175

What up 365 ers. What a gorgeous nearly summer day here in southern California. After watching James Sunderland score two goals in a crushing defeat in his men’s league soccer game, I was inspired to go for a bike ride down to the beach next to LAX airport. Found some interesting trails along some inlets that I am definitely looking forward to running on when I get to my high teen mile long runs. Biked down along the ocean with a few stops at lights here and there but it made for a nice 20 mile ride. After rehydrating, I mounted back up and biked the 22 miles back home. (Took a few different routes on the way back).

Day 174

I cannot believe it is May already!!  This means my half marathon is THIS weekend!  Craziness.  Unfortunately with starting a new job and busy with other freelance stuff, my training got put on the back burner for a couple weeks.  While I was keeping active with yoga, walks and shorter runs here and there, I haven’t had a solid, long run.  Despite this, I’m still going to run on Sunday.  I made the commitment a couple months back and I know I can finish it.  While it might not be my best time, it will be an awesome Sunday workout and I know I’ll be super pumped to finish.    I’m hoping to come in around 2 hours….crossing my fingers : )  So send some wishes my way and I’ll let you all know!

As for today…a quick run around the lake to beat the rain was all I could fit in.  Felt pretty good but definitely needed a good stretch when I got home.

That’s all for now!!  Happy Friday!

Day 173

Started the day off with a great film session with the Varsity Lacrosse team.  The boys were coming off a great win against rival Kiski, as we prepared for our weekend in Cincinnati.  Assistant Coach Joe, broke down the film and rallied the team for the game and also today’s practice.

For practice we started with “3 by 3” small sided lacrosse games (using small goals and tennis balls).  And by we, I mean the coaches had a team too. (Just  a reminder, i’ve never played lacrosse before).

The team broke up into groups of three, and played games to three goals.  we had multiple fields set up, and after every game the winners moved up and the losers moved down.  As the coaches team, we started on the top winning field and were hoping to stay there the entire practice. I would love to report that our team went undefeated, but we ended the day with a few loses.

It was a great workout on a warm day and I think we managed to hold onto our pride

Until next Thursday,

-Tim

Day 172

Filling in for Team Wednesday for Day 172 of the 365 Day Challenge Blog. Team Saturday here!

I am recovering from my week long East Coast trip from sleeping on couches, floors, air mattresses, planes (the worst) and sometimes no sleep at all…body is extremely tired.

In order to lengthen out the body, get a good sweat, get the heart rate up all while getting a full body workout, I went swimming for a little over an hour for what I think was roughly 3.25 miles. Felt great. Some light stretching before and after in the Sauna. Will get back to the road mileage soon.
